Suggestion smite?

I am wondering why paladins dont have strike removed and given smite? Lore wise, that would make alot of sense. The fact that it costs mana would force a paladin to either heal or do damage. It would also give them a little range.

tbh paladins are hitting crazy amounts of damage anyway at the moment, considering there are a tanky healer they are also able to output a lot of damage. Kind of like ret paladins in WoW :p
