I'm trying to decide what class and profession I want to be after I get to level 30 in the basic ones (caster and crafter).

The two combat classes I'm looking at are wizard and beguiler. I'm trying to decide which of the two teleport abilities would be more useful; wizards can port to preset locations and summon their friends to them, while beguilers can teleport to other people. Additionally, it seems that the combat abilities of the wizard are substantially more useful than those of the beguiler. (How will the Piggify spell be affected by the fact that players can now control the pigs they ride on with carrots on a stick?)

I'm also wondering whether I should be a merchant or a miner. I'm leaning towards miner, but wanted some other opinions.

Wizard/Merchant.

I recently went through something like this. I respected from Ninja to Caster. Didn't know whether to go Wizard or Beguiler.
Couldn't really decide which one so I'm going to try something different. Necromancer.
And of course I asked for advice as well.

I'd go Wizard/Miner.

Wizard is very useful, especially with skills such as port, pulse, groupteleport and blink.

As for Miner, I think it's better than Merchant if you arn't looking to make money. Other than setting up shops, Merchants don't have much benefit over the other professions. Maybe that's just my opinion... :p

Well, I like making money, but I don't know how useful shop-making would be. Most of my income now and on other servers has come from mining, and it doesn't seem like shopchests are used much on this server.

c12 is a Miner, he's the richest player on the server :p

Yeah. Shops don't help that much. You're best off making a couple of shops then switching to another profession.

Once I master Merchant, im going back to Mason. I miss the ol' days of quick-as-you-can-get transportation! :D Also, I miss my traps! :p

Either that or Engineer. I've always wanted to smash people's heads in with pistons! >: )

If you switch specializations, do you keep the exp you gained in the other specialization, so that you can go back to where you were if you decide to go back to it someday? (ie, I first go merchant and make a bunch of shops, and then go miner, but then an economic crisis happens and all the prices change, so I go back to merchant for 500c and make more signs, and then go back to miner for 500c, and then to something else again once the world runs out of ores, which probably won't take long given that we have a relatively small world and a typical online population ranging from 30-90.)

Also, you mention "quick-as-you-can-get transportation" for the mason, but I don't see any skill on the wiki for mason that suggests it helps with transportion. Is the wiki up to date?

Without the trade district, there's not that much chestshop usage. The only reason to stay merchant is to trade with villagers and use enderchests. If you're looking for money go miner.

Yes, you keep the EXP, it's just expensive. Also warshard is a world to mine in, which is supposed to get reset every so often.

Trade district? Is this something that will be built in the future? I remember hearing this world was relatively new.

The trade district was an area in the last map, Dragongarde, which was non-PvP and had plenty of open, big and busy shops.

Most merchants made there money here. Tons of people went there.

The black market is different to the trade district. The black market was introduced a couple of months after the release of Bastion, whereas the trade district was released in the days following the release of Dragongarde.

From what I've heard, the black market doesn't sound very conducive to trade. It's hard to find and people are able to kill you there. It would make more sense just to make shops in a prominent player-run town.

At any rate, now that I've found out that there's a cap to the number of towns, and it has either already been met or is close to being met, I don't really have much use for money. I should probably focus more on affluence than material wealth, since my only hope to start a town now (besides hoping than an existing one dies off) is to wait for the next world reset, which will take away everything besides the friends I've made.
For that purpose, I should probably go for merchant make a name for myself setting up shops near spawn, although a service-oriented profession such as engineer might also help me (I'm not very experienced with redstone though).

Towns die off relatively frequently, so if you really want to start a town, you should just wait a bit and a spot will open up.
