Putting bad prices on chest shops is not illegal. It's up to you to NOT be fooled by them, just like real life.

Heroes,

This topic is to raise awareness about shady chest shops that line the 4 roads that exit from spawn. Recently, there have been a few shops that are buying stacks of gold ore for only slightly more than a single ingot is worth from DXH.

Like this one for example:

Chest shops work like this:
1. The first line is the shop owner's name
2. The second line is the quantity of the item that can be sold or purchased (10 for the 10 redstone shops at graveyards for example)
3. This line is important, it dictates if it's buy-only/sell-only and lists the coin value for buying and selling
4. This line lists the item this shop handles.

So if a sign's third line doesn't have the letter B on it, but has the letter S then it's a sell-to chest shop only and you can't get items from it in exchange for coins.

So for example, the shops below reads as this:
I9BRkRA.png

"Kenneth_Chow is selling bundles of 10 redstone for 1 coin each. If you give 10 redstone to this shop you will receive 0.01 coins"

and

"blugauga_5 is purchasing bundles of 64 gold ore, you will receive 10 coins if you give this shop 64 gold ore. This shop does not sell gold ore back to players"

Anybody who's been on Herocraft longer than a week knows a stack of gold ore is worth FAR more than 10 coins; it's more like 600+ coins.

Do your server a favor and spread the word. Check the math every time and don't be fooled by any signs surrounding the chest shop. Always do the math yourself!

When a chest shop like the one below is buying a stack of gold ore for 582c, then you are getting 9.1c for each ingot.

That's about .1 coins more than DHX buys gold for so every 10 ingots nets you an extra 1c. This is really worth it if you have a heaping pile of gold ore as you will gain a profit and/or if you just want to support the person running that shop.

This is really frustrating to me. Not sure why these are allowed and or legal.

I would be less upset if Bastion city had a formal trade district. The black market never took off and is now pvp-off but nobody rents shops down there. A new area is being made by staff on the surface of bastion and it looks promising.

Maybe under the relaxed conditions of shopping in a no-pvp region will people check their math before they sell.

Hopefully gold shops won't be forbidden like they were in DG.

reporting this to the chestshop developer now.

For what reason? There's nothing technically wrong with the chest shops. It's just bogus considering the server economy. The plugin itself is working fine.

Are you going to implement a range they can't exist within in regard to an HTTP region or something?

Yeah I lost like 200 c on these shops. It is not much but you see the "10.4c per" sign and click. They buy by the stack too. Are these going to be illegal?

Short of a dedicated trade district that is pvp-off there's not much that could be done about this IMHO. The old adage may the buyer beware applies here as well. It is entirely up to the buyer to read and interpret the signs. There'd be no accurate way to regulate this system short of a shop nanny which I doubt anyone wants that position.

I agree. In a no pvp area people can take extra time to do the math and read ALL the signs. In a pvp-on area you just do your business and get out. Hence why so many fall for these traps.

People are lazy and I doubt they would do the math if they had extra time. As is, to use most of these shops you don't even need to leave the no PvP zone.
