Screen Recording /Video Recording for Minecraft

Some methods to record minecraft gameplay:

Fraps: Its a good recording software, free version allows you to record 30sec with fraps watermark at top of screen. Easy to use and configure. only downside is huge vid files.
--I use this and many others I know of --


Camtastia: Good software, has a few options. Mac and windows flavored. downside is free trial only thirty days.


Banicam: Great software, small footprint, way smaller vid size and runs great on those older machines. ( less lag while recording your sheep farm)
Free version puts a url watermark at top of video, much like fraps
**I recommend this for most average users.


Taski: open source freeware. Havent tried this out but will and post results.
( if anyone else can please holler)



Dxtory : Dxtory is a movie capture tool only for DirextX/OpenGL application
(testing application)



there are other methods, of getting the full software, but that is for google and not for discussion here. ( unless the admins/mods deem so)

I think I'll be writing up a Guide soon on how to compress FRAPS videos with XviD via VirtualDub then uploading it to YouTube. Should be a great way to help crack down on cheaters.

In the meantime, if you need a copy of FRAPS, let me know. I won't post a link to it publicly.

First rule of video compressing: DON'T USE WMM.
Second rule: Download a third party codec like XviD and use a program made specifically for such things. I can recommend VirtualDub. It's free and easy to use.
File -> open video file to import the fraps recording. Unfortunately, you will have to select each fraps recording one-by-one.
Video -> framerate to adjust the framerate (youtube limits it to 30)
Video -> filters -> add -> resize to resize the video
Vide -> compression -> Xvid MPEG-4 Codec (You will have to download it first) -> configure to select the compression. Target quantifier of about 7 seems to be the best compromise between size and quality.
Video -> full processing mode should be selected
Lastly, File -> save as AVI. It's going to take a while.

then upload your avi to youtube account.

@Brutalacerate must know why fraps is so fricking computer instensive..
