Relic question

I was wondering if the higher level relics will ever be able to be exchanged 3:1 like the three relic 1 --> one relic 2 does now.

Thanks,

You can combine up to Relic 4.

Relic 5 will never be "3:1" if anything it would be 9:1 or 18:1 just to ensure its possible to create.

We're not sure yet.

Honestly don't think it should be, and at 18:1 i think it could hurt the prices on those 18 xD

@Kainzo [USERGROUP=38]@Balance Team[/USERGROUP] with regard to the 18:1 concept, below is a picture of all of the relics I have drawn from 190 levels of mining on Sanctuary (20 levels of crafter, 60 levels of miner, 60 levels of enchanter, and 50 levels of merchant):

Profession Relics 062914.jpg

these are in alphabetical order based on profession & number of relics pulled. I would estimate that half were pulled before the "Relic V increased drop rate"; half were pulled after:
Alchemist: 1:33; 2:34; 3:13; 4:9; 5:0; Total: 86
Enchanter: 1:43; 2:23; 3:9; 4:8; 5:0; Total: 83
Engineer: 1:46; 2:24; 3:5; 4:9; 5:1; Total: 85
Farmer: 1:20; 2:27; 3:9; 4:7; 5:0; Total: 63
Runesmith: 1:37; 2: 41; 3:18; 4:14; 5:1; Total: 111
Merchant: 1:23; 2:26; 3:17; 4:11; 5:0; Total: 74
Smith: 1:46; 2:33; 3:16; 4:10; 5:0: Total: 105
Miner: 1:32; 2:32; 3:12; 4:9; 5:0: Total: 85

Total Tier 1: 271
Total Tier 2: 223
Total Tier 3: 99
Total Tier 4: 77
Total Tier 5: 2
Total Relics: 672

I am unsure the sort of drop rate you are seeking for Tier 5 relics...but 2 out of a grand total of 672 relics (all of which I mined between levels y=13 and y=9) seems a little bit... sparse.

It would be nice if a tier 5 relic drops per, say 25-40 levels of mining. Two tier 5 relics in 190 levels (all in extreme hills, where 244 emeralds also dropped) means that the drop rate of relic 5 was 1 per 95 levels of mining.

If the above distribution is indicative of the standard rate over time for all HC members, then it would mean that a 9:1 echange rate would mean that I would have enough (over 190 levels) tier 4s to exchange in some classes, and would require me to purchase or trade for 1 to 3 relics in other classes in order to gain a tier 5 relic for that profession. If this was bumped to an 18:1 exchange, I would have to buy/trade for 5-12 additional tier 4 relics in order to get a tier 5, which seems to defeat the purpose of the exchange (utlizing one's acquired resources to upgrade to the next tier).

Not everybody can put in as many hours as I have this past week mining. I think the relic 5 drop rate should be increased even more, and that the exchange rate for 4 to 5 should be somewhere between 6:1 and 9:1, depending on the increased relic 5 drop rate.

Thank you for your consideration on this topic,

While it still seems to rare to aquire one(I have received one in 120 levels) Your numbers seem to indicate a 18:1 ratio of 4's to 5's is where it's at, or maybe a little bit lower 38:1 perhaps.

We have a new drop method for Profession Relics. This change was pushed a few days ago. The majority of relics 1-4 gained were off of Minor and Lesser ores because the drop rate was far higher than desired. With the changes, Relic V will appear twice as often.

Minor Ore - only drop 1 & 2
Lesser Ore - only drops 3, 4 and 5 (5 being low)
Greater Ore - Drops all 5 with a better chance on 5.

Replying to the balance team tag:
Do not forget that Balancing is done around the Average player. We avoid this mindset as much as possible for PvP balancing, but for Profession/Drop Rate balancing we do think about it. This isn't something the Balance Team discusses in the literal sense, its just a commonly held belief that the actions we take are made for the widest possible benefit of our playerbase.

Yes we could make a "Relic-Sink", but we do that because it does seem that Open Cave Mining at the start of the map yielded a lot of 1-4's, and we would expect mining drop rates to slow down in direct relationship to the supply of Open Cave Ores (meaning map expansions would return us to where we are now, while longer periods of stable map sizes could lead to less than the desired amounts of profession relics).

TL: DR - The players that are complaining about too-many-relics are some of our more active players, but we need to remember everyone's activity level. Mining is easy at the start of the map, and we need to remember that as well. A Relic-Sink that is both useful for the hoarders but not the optimal use for Relics would be good to have.
