People using fake names on TS

I don't know if this is happening to other people, or if this is even possible to prevent.

Last week a member of AD received a message from "Kainzo" on TS stating, "we have proof of you using hacks, watch out", or skmetning along those lines. Today another member receives a link from "Jonsoon", then proceeds to get DDOSd.

Like I said, I do not know if this can be prevented, but these IPs need to be looked up as they are impersonating staff and players, and attempting to hack or whatever you want to call it. Since I have only heard this of happening to AD members, I can only assume that it is another group of players on the server. I certainly hope no one would stoop to such levels.

I was just told all members of my council have been contacted by this scam.

It's disgustingly sad that someone would do this. Probably someone from a town that we stomped trying to make themselves feel better. ;)

We're working on getting this resolved. Several users have been banned. In the mean time, rest assured that staff will not contact you over TS3 (IM) - it will be via these forums.

This happened to me as well. Someone impersonating Jonsoon asked me the password to the Prometheus TS channel.

Someone impersonating Lumont got a whole 5 day Teamspeak ban, and wasn't banned on the server itself. Seems like a pretty light punishment for doing something so obviously wrong.

For now, I'd say that if someone does it, mark their identity as a "foe" in the TS system, and next time you see the legit one check to see if they're marked.
That system appears to go by Identities, and while you can make new ones at will, a match with a user's normal one can at least prove they had access to the user's Identity.

I received a message from your name on TS the other night, now guess that was someone impersonating you. He said "omg wtf dude" followed by a random link.
