Not sure if this has been done already but meh...
First things you want to do:
First READ THE BLOODY RULES! Mods and Admins get angry when you ask about rules when they are right there when you first spawn...
Second: Follow the signs remeber to read all signs or you'll be very annoying asking about all the obvious stuff in chat.
Third: Pick your class, this is very important, you want to start leveling as soon as possible, noobs are generally targeted due to people wanting some easy exp and kills.
Forth: Explore spawn a little. Getting to know spawn can be very useful when you want to sell stuff later on. Also there are some kick ass creations around there.
Fifth: This is your choice you can go on your own for a bit or join a town. My recommendation it to join a town as soon as possible, because out there in the wilderness is very, very dangerous.
Joining a town: There are two ways you can do this
1: Ask in game, some people like to recruit in-game but don't spam the chat constantly with,
"I WANNA JOIN A TOWN"
2: Search for a town that is to your liking in The Official Township forum.
After you have joined a town, they should show you the ropes.
Lone Wolf eh?:
This is a harder way to live, but if you like the more full on approach to PvP this is for you!
First get very, very far away from spawn. If your too close people generally will attack you more, mainly cause you will be so easy to find.
Second cut some trees down, this is a Minecraft MUST in any server. Wood is just a splintery version of Gold.
Third Dig yourself a nice little hole in the ground, set yourself up, make some tools etc.
Forth Go mining it is the easiest and fastest way to make both money and Experience for youself.
Simple Commands:
/hero
Shows all the Hero commands.
/ch o
This is public chat or "Off-topic"
/ch h
Unsure about something? This is the help channel ask your question here and people will do their best to answer you.
