Time to spout more on-the-spot ideas on how I think Herocraft should be run!
I think crossover between classes could be fun, perhaps implemented through a pre-determined selection of abilities from a mastered class/spec. You could, for a fee, sort of overlay an abridged version of a previously mastered class to what you are now. Maybe it would reset your progress in the class you use? A couple examples:
Monk Mastery
HP: 60 base, +o.25 (averaged with current class's value)
Specialty Weapon: Fist (uses Monk's damage values when calculating damage with fists, in essence allows IronFist)
Abilities Granted- Allows use of the following
Dispel
ForcePush
Tool alterations- Wood and Gold are generally Quality 1, Stone 2, Iron 3, Diamond 4. May vary depending on
Pick Quality: +0
Sword Quality: -2
Shovel Quality: +0
Axe Quality: If existing class is an Axe specialist (Ranger, D.Knight), -1
Hoe Quality: If existing class is a Hoe specialist (Healers, Casters), -1
Shears: neutral (will not disallow or grant shears)
Bow: neutral
Armor Alterations- Leather and Gold are Quality 1, Chain 2, Iron 3, Diamond 4.
Head Quality: -3, will not disallow leather
Chest Quality: -3, will not disallow leather
Legs Quality: -3, will not disallow leather
Boots Quality: -3, will not disallow leather
Paladin Mastery
HP: Base 65, +0.9
Specialty Weapon: Swords, Soulfire (Gold Sword [right?])
Abilities Granted:
SoulFire
LayHands
Invuln
Tool Alterations
Pick Quality: +0
Sword Quality: +1
Shovel Quality: +0
Axe Quality: +0
Hoe Quality: If existing class is a Hoe specialist, -1
Shears: neutral
Bow: disallows

Legs Quality: +1, will not grant diamond
Boots Quality: +1, will not grant diamond
This post was brought to you today by the relatively obscure DS game, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, wherein you get little ability nodes for leveling up your monsters, which you then apply to your other monsters to make them better.
It may be worth it to limit a Crafter's Mastery to tool and skill alterations. It would be tough to work into the game, no doubt, but does the concept sound good to anybody?
