Long ago was the age of Heroes.
Long past are the days of powerful beings that strode their earth in great strides, battling each other for glory and honor. Long gone are the days of the battles that filled epics, the fights that became legend, the skirmishes that each being lived for. Far in the past are the days of the champions who defined their world of prowess in combat, and skill at survival.
Those days are gone.
Many generations ago was the Cataclysm. Some say the sea rose up and swallowed the world whole. Some say fire rained from the heavens for twenty-three long years. Some say the ground simply fell away, leaving great gaps in the world. Others attest to all three. None in living memory have seen to know the truth.
It was a terrible disaster, and in its wake the world was left desolate. Most of the land was scorched, its creatures slaughtered and its plantlife desiccated. The once-proud beings that inhabited the world quickly turned on each other. Abandoning all honor and pride in hopes of survival, those that survived butchered each other in droves.
Those that survived the initial killings swiftly gathered into primitive tribes. Under hastily constructed monochrome banners, they fought viciously for control of the last few habitable and valuable tracts of land that remained in the world. Eight clans quickly cemented their positions as the most formidable and powerful of all, flying red, blue, green, yellow, purple, cyan, white, and black banners. Countless others perished.
The Cataclysm was many generations ago, and since those days the earth has slowly healed. Its plants have regrown, its wildlife has repopulated, and the harsh scars across the face of the earth have been softened by years of erosion.
Its inhabitants, however, have not. The Cataclysm and their fall to ruin have left them primitive once more, their centuries of hard-earned knowledge and culture erased in the blink of an eye by the desperate struggle for survival and the brutality it required of them. Though the earth has healed and the Cataclysm has vanished from living memory, the tribes continue to wage war across the land, war without meaning, purpose, or hope for victory. None remember why they fight. They know only that they must continue to fight, for ceasing to fight means defeat and defeat means death.
There is no world. There is no civilization. There is no end.
There is only the Land War.
The above is a piece of lore I just sort of threw together, to justify the proposal I'm bringing for you guys. Basically, I'm looking to bring to Herocraft what it seems to be lacking right now: place where you can go to just PvP, without worrying about the consequences. Aside from the potential monetary victory rewards that would still be credited to your overall account, it would just be throwaway team PvP games. If you're familiar with the horde of "Kit PvP" servers out there, you know what I mean.
The difference is that the plugins that run this system are entirely custom-written by myself, and although the system is sort of rough-around-the-edges due to a bunch of changes I've been making to the chat system lately, it works very well, and in particular it's extremely carefully balanced. As it runs on my own server, it's balanced around Vanilla PvP, but I'm pretty confident it could be easily assimilated with Heroes if you guys want, given any restrictions that need to be made (for instance, ender pearls on the instance I've got running are infinite, but bear a 10 second cool down).
The other difference is that this will, hopefully, not have any kits. Instead, you'll join with whatever your Herocraft inventory and skill-set was, and fight with that. You won't lose anything when you die, of course.
As it stands, all the sort of "core" games that you'll expect to find anywhere else are completely implemented - Team Deathmatch (kill all the enemies), Capture the Flag (steal a flag out of the enemy base and return it to yours), King of the Hill (keep control of the hill zone by standing in it to win, crazy king style), and Domination/Conquest (capture zones by holding them and keep them secure to win). I also have two completely unique game types written, called Assault (storm a castle and break several redstone ores, or defend the onslaught) and Blitzkrieg (capture linked totems in key regions and make your way to the enemy home), and plans to write two more, called Holdfast (outlast the enemy team against waves of monsters) and Project PTFO (all of the above fused together).
Keep in mind, these are all games that are written for a framework that runs one game at a time on its own server. I'm currently working on another framework that can run games within another server if necessary, but that isn't ready to go right now.
Go ahead and discuss. My goal for this project, if you approve, is to broaden the reach of Herocraft and help it gain access to new kinds of players to keep fresh blood flowing into the server.
EDIT: On a completely unrelated note, I present to you Project PEW for Minecraft. It's pretty much the most awesome resource pack ever made. Voice acted by myself.
