I have found a spot of land I wish to build upon but there is an old sign there claiming the land for someone else. I have posted my own claim sign but how long do I have to wait before I can start building there ? Do I need to /pe it to be sure ? There are no structures only a few blocks placed here and there and some chests with nothing worthwhile in them.

yeah I know that but its not really a structure - just land someone wanted to build on but so far hasn't.
