I've seen several discussions regarding the karma system but not an official thread. After the conversation in off-topic this morning I thought it would be good to place all of our thoughts in one location.

Here's my two cents on the situation (note that the *** values next to the acts denote how much karma gain/loss they should be worth):

I'm also using "without provocation"/"unprovoked" to mean "attacked first". So if A attacked an unprovoked B then A is committing an evil act and B is engaged in self-defense.

+++Good Actions+++
===============
All good actions should follow the theme of self-defense and standing up for the weak.
1. Acts of Self Defense
** Defeating your opponent once they have struck you first. "Pure self defense"
* Defeating your opponent after you were killed during an act of self defense. "Defending your honor" This is more to cover the situation where you are being attacked in your town and you need to repel invaders.
2. Aiding Comrades
** Defeating, or aiding in the defeat of, someone who has attacked a fellow citizen/guild/party/ally member without provocation whether or not your ally is still alive after being attacked.
3. Aiding the Weak
*** Defeating, or aiding in the defeat of, someone who is attacking/has attacked an unprovoked low level unaffiliated (no town/guild membership) player.

----Evil Actions----
=============
Evil actions should revolve around aggressive and vindictive behavior.
1. Aggressiveness
* Attacking players without provocation.
** Defeating unprovoked players.
** Defeating weak unaffiliated players without provocation.
*** Spawn camping of any sort. Associated with high frequency slayings: kill the same person within X amount of seconds.
2. Mob Mentality
* Acting in a group to attack unprovoked players.
*** Acting in a group to spawn camp players.

3. Minecraft: Revengeance
* Attacking the player who killed you in an act of self defense
** Killing the player who killed you in an act of self defense
* Attacking a player who aided the player that killed you in act of self defense.
** Killing a player who aided the player that killed you in act of self defense.

***Neutral Actions***
===============
Neutral actions should be associated with participating in activities outside normal pvp or providing assistance based on town membership. They will have no bearing on the player's karma.
1. The Warrior's Code
* Killing a player marked as either your town's enemy, or your ally's enemy, unprovoked. This represents an act of fealty to your nation/town as you're repelling potential invaders. Killing them in self defense would be seen as a good act.
2. The Bounty Hunter
* Issuing a bounty.
* Accepting a bounty.
* Killing the bounty in any way.
3. Amusement
* Attacking and killing players during Arenas, Duels or other events.
