Iron should not be considered "rare"

I was just looking at my collection of iron blocks, and was wondering what I would do with them. I thought of adding them to my house, but didn't think that they would fit. Then I thought about making a fort out in the wilderness, but then caught myself; raiders would tear it to shreds. If you mine (and I'm sure you do) then you may have amassed a considerable amount of iron. In 1 mining session, I can find anywhere from 1-2 stacks of ingots. Why are blocks as rare as glowstone or pumpkin un-griefable, and yet a block as common as iron up for stealing? Ever since Heroes, iron has become even less valuable with the addition of smiths. There is always iron sitting in my chest, unused, as I cannot build with it, for fear of it being stolen. Iron is a very unique-looking block, and would be a great addition to buildings outside of towns everywhere.

I agree, in an hour I can get several stacks of iron from a cave, and if mining in the ground, I can still get like half a stack or more in that time. I don't see why it is considered rare when it is just sitting out in the open air half the time. I see it on the ground while exploring all the time.

glowstone will prob be greifable when hell comes out, and pumkins are already greifable. Iron is used for alot of things which is why its on the list

Wood is used for a lot of things, why isn't that on the list then?

Iron is extremely easy to come by. It doesn't matter if it's farmable or not if absolutely everyone has it in spades

As I look upon my two stacks of iron blocks I mined I find it sad that they had to sit in a chest for so long until I could build in a regioned area. Iron is cheap, looks great in projects, and is needlessly labelled as valuable. Now that plenty of players can't touch iron tools, why steal iron if you can't use it? Hell you could say the same for diamond with how few classes can touch that :p

On the flip-side of the coin I can see how it is useful. It encourages players to join a town and provide teamwork to get a ring up so they can show off their creations. Especially with the new town requirements of rare these "Rare-blocks".
