Hey guys, so lately I have been brainstorming ideas to promote Herocraft in more ways that liking Facebook pages and bumping threads. I use to be the head promoter for a smaller Minecraft server which, I brought in a good amount of people until the owner shut it down.

So here are some of the things I have done in the past and new ideas I have come up with:

  • No Whitelist Events. Now its not what it seems, its more like an 'open house'. Every once in a while, during the weekend we open up the server for people to join at will. However, they cannot build, destroy, or craft. All they can do is wander around and talk to players while they submit an application and wait to be whitelisted. This way they will get a sense of the communtiy and be more willing to submit an app.
  • Recruiting on the Minecraft forums. This is directed at the mayors and SiCs of towns on Herocraft. What they can do is recruit players for their towns directly from the Minecraft forums in their own thread. (It would be better to post under the Starting Up/ Looking for Server sub-thread) In the thread they would have to have the Herocraft logos, links to the forums and instructions on how to apply.
  • Going Big on Events. This is an easier way to bring in more players. Every once in a while post the info to special events we will be having. Tell players to apply and get settled into the server before the event.
  • Youtube. I've seen a lot of great Herocraft videos, but we should get a great one for the new map with some nice fly-by shots of spawn anf key information. Then we should promote that video as the official Herocraft trailer. This will raise the view count and spread it around more. On a side note, Herocraft Let's Plays are another great way to get our name out there.

  • Merging Servers. I remember Kainzo talking about this one day. You see all these new and upcoming servers popping up everyday. If we could get people to research the good ones and bring their player base over to Herocraft we could increase our community a lot. Of course our Proctors would have to review the whitelist to avoid harmful players.

  • Minecraft Forums. Herocraft players could put an official Herocraft signature on their account over on MC forums. That way when they go about their daily business over there, they will be spreading the name and attracting new players. - OD by: Apples
  • Referral System. If someone lists you under the referral section on their whitelist app you can receive (X)c. We could have different rules for this like the player has to be active for 2 weeks and there can only be 1 name as a referral. -OD by: Predator
There is some of the methods I think would help promote Herocraft. I'd also like to say I'm not complaining about the amount of players we have now. We have had 180+ players on most of the time since the map wipe which is nuts. I just think that the general goal by the staff is to run the biggest and best Minecraft server.

Also, if you have any suggestions, additions, or ideas feel free to comment. I love reading your feedback. I was also thinking of throwing together a publicity team for Herocraft. PM me if you are interested.

Edited!!

Thanks!!
P.S. @Kainzo I'd like to hear what you think of this.

^Leader.

Anyways, I think one of the biggest problems here, is that it's hard to see how great our community is until you've joined it and experienced it first hand. The no whitelist event you mentioned would be a great way to give other players a chance to peak in like they do on test servers.

Another thing I feel is a bit lacking, is our presence on the MC forums. If you've looked at our thread, about all you will see there are applications and copy/paste responses. This isn't really suitable for getting news of outsider-welcome events to the public.

As for the "Going big" bit, the first thing I thought of was Mortal Kombat style tournaments. 1v1, classic bracket system with 1-by if we have odd numbers. Winner gets either a pot (entry fees), a temporary title, or some other non-balance-breaking reward. Our server seems to have very few recurring organized events.

Edit-

What I would personally like to see, is Herocraft Proctors wear a banner to the MC forums and merge into the community. Proctors are almost always the first taste of Herocraft a potential member gets. This would take that example straight to the community we're trying to bring home.
I don't think it would be a hard thing to manage, either. We could pop open a thread with a user banner, instructions, and have willing proctors hop over to the MC forums daily to post in threads they're interested in. The one wearing the banner would set the example, and demonstrate what our community is like. The banner itself would tell everyone where to go.

The no whitelisting events seem kinda dodgy. I like the idea of them not building, pvping ect ect, however it could lag the server and produce a ton of spam coming from young players. Would be good, in that case, to have a /ch unwhitelisted for all the questions. I presume /ch h would not be enough for around 21.7 questions a second! :p

As for the other suggestions, I like them! :) Especially the events. We need more of those. Also during times both favouring in US and other countries. Most of the time these events happen when it is around 11:30pm for me! :p

I plan on making HC youtube video's. I have always been put off by the fact my video producing quality is poor (the actual picture turns out blurry ect ect). However now I have managed to find a solution to the problem and my video's look sexy and clear! :D A lot better than they used to look like! :)

Kainzo/other admins would have to contact the other ''good'' servers in order for the ''merging'' idea to work. I have played on other popular servers and they don't like it when people talk/advertise another server! :p

@Apples That is what the whitelist even in basically aimed to do. As well as give people that first login so they are more inclined to return. I really like your idea for the tournament, but any special event would work for the publicity aspect.

Also, that's a good idea for people to post all over the Minecraft forums to spread our good name. This wouldn't even have to be limited to Proctors if people wanted to post on different threads.

@MajorasMask Some things would have to be worked out in order for some of this to work (No whitelist events). Also, we wouldn't target other popular servers (Top 10 of MS) but maybe smaller ones with a lot of potential.

And look forward to seeing your videos.

Youtube Trailers are always good aswell as other factors but some effective promotation is just word of mouth, ask people to recommend a friend and get 5 coins if a friend they have joins ?

What if we reopened the test server, had a player cap of about 20, and no whitelist? People who were thinking about joining Herocraft, but with a "Meh. Too lazy to make an app" attitude could hop on with no obligations/commitments and see how awesome the skills/leveling are. We could have signs explaining how much better everything is in the actual server, and whenever someone is bored, they could hop on over to the test server and play guide for whoever is there.

Personally, i think that having a refferal system would work fine, seen it work on CSS, Gmod, Even worked on previous gmod Servers ive owned, giving people money for reffering works....

@_AMPLiFY They're not supposed to use the test server. They're supposed to hop on, say "Wow, I can shoot fireballs/heal/go invisible! I need to join this server! *applies, gets on the main server*

Here's my thoughts.
  • No Whitelist Events. - I like this idea and I think it should be done. We should have "no whitelist" weekends to just let other players see it that aren't on Herocraft - can post on multiple game forums/servers and then put up a whitelist after it's done.
  • Recruiting on the Minecraft forums. - Completely agreed, There needs to be more communtiy interaction on MCF promoting the awesome name of Herocraft and what we offer to the Hardcore/RPG community. We are the best, everyone needs to hear the story of Herocraft.
  • Going Big on Events. - This will take planning and will need some time on admins part to post ahead of time for X event. It will be nice to do and I think scheduled events is a good thing to do. Especially TITLE offer events!
  • Youtube. - Weynard has "HerocraftGuy" - could use that too. We need a Herocraft webpage on Youtube and we need to put those videos in all places to make sure a lot see them - have quality content on them, Events / Raids / Nether fun / etc
  • Merging Servers. - In a manner of speaking, we've already absorbed some of a larger server and another smaller server that has died - I won't mention names, nor do we actively try to soak up server but we have the community and hardware to support it.
  • Minecraft Forums. - Signature on Forum accounts is 100% must have. Feel free to make a custom one and have it easy paste access for all users.
  • Referral System. - Referral coins or other things would be nice to have - not sure about the system.

No Whitelist Events would be Fantastic.

Dils1 told me to check this server out a very long time ago, I came on these forums but i couldn't find anything really showing me What this Server was like. so I didn't bother applying.

Soo I think we lose a fair bit of players in the situation Above ^^^^

Now 6 months later I gave this server a shot because more of my friends started playing it, and I love it!

Thanks for the feedback guys, and I'm not too great at signatures. Maybe @RandomAcronym could throw together a quick 'Hoercraft Member' Signature for the MC forums. Or anyone else who can do them.
