I have been lacking a working microphone lately, so I started experimenting...
I plugged my ipod earbuds into the microphone jack, and voila, it worked fine as a microphone!
If you want to feel extra epic, wrap the cord around your forehead, over your ears, and tape them to both cheeks! You will never feel ridiculous again!

Fun fact: most microphone input and speaker output operates in the same way, only in reverse!
