Bug Fire damage cancels other damage?

I do not know if this is a bug or "working as designed," but I have noticed that fire damage will sometimes cancel out other types of damage.

This applies to both the player and mobs.

I first noticed it with zombies and skeletons -- during the day they burn in sunlight, of course. It seems that if they are hit with an arrow during the burning "pulse," they take no projectile damage and the arrow will often bounce off.

The other instance has been when I fall from a height while burning. (I do this a lot. Please do not judge me.) If I hit the ground during a burning damage "pulse," I take no fall damage at all. I have been able to fall over 100 blocks with no damage on multiple occasions.

Minecraft hard-coded issue. We're aware of it but I do not believe there is a fix.
I don't think there is either, and quite frankly, I'm not sure it is something that should be fixed either.

Note that this applies to all minecraft related damage ticks. Withering basically causes invulnerability from melee attacks/arrows to whoever it is placed on.

Wait... so... (High level Fire Protection armor) + (self-immolation) = invulnerability?
no,
the reson why fire cancels other damage is that in mc a target can only take damage from one source at a time.

Fire armor reduce fire ticks (they don't remove them completely), so when you remove the fire ticks you don't get damaged from the fire and you are free to take damage from other sources.

(don't kill me if this info is wrong).

I'm pretty sure that with fire protection armor the fire ticks happen just as often, but they just do less damage.

So basically using a fire aspect and trying to use mortal wound is pointless? I mean worthless bc you don't get the bleed.

No. You take less damage, but the fire still goes with the damage ticks at the same speed and the fire lasts just as long. Using a potion of fire protection negates the ticks though, i think.
Did you even take a look at the link I posted to mc wiki?
