Bug Death Chests

I was asked to report this a while ago.. sorry it took so long.

Death Chest don't consistently work for me.
Sometimes they work, other times all my items spillout all over the ground.
It's hit or miss really; I cannot reliably repeat it.
I'd say it works about 80% of the time.

There has also been the rare occasion I do get a Death Chest, yet some of my item spill out anyways, while some end up in the Death Chest. In these cases I did not have too many items, there's less than a single chest worth of stuff on me at the time (usually ready for raid/bare minimum).
Truly weird!

It doesn't matter if I'm on regions or not.
I always make sure I have at least one chest and a sign on me. It's not PEBKAC.

I have less then a 50/50 ratio of getting a deathchest myself.

It does seem to be that if my feet are not solidly planted on the ground or my killed is to close to me then I don't spawn one.
If I get knocked back and die in the air I often don't spawn one.

Happens when I'm not near any chests.
Never noticed happen or not on a region I can't build on.
Made sure of that.

If you jump when you die.

Hell, if you're 3 inches off the ground when you die it won't drop usually.

Happens when you get airborn from KB attacks or even from a sprint attack. Can't avoid it in that case

Yep! I only ever get single death chests.

Not 100% sure on this one but apparently you also don't place a chest if you die in the air.

I think the issue is when the player is in the air. If you're knocked into the air right before dying, it almost never spawns. Though, for some reason, it will on occasion.

If you are in lava/water it will not work.

Just adding on, if you're at the bottom of the lava/water touching the ground the chest will drop. Not 100% sure on this, but it's happened to me before.

As jacob said, a chest will drop if you are on the bottom of the body of water. Also, this is obvious, but you don't drop a chest when you die because of suffocating in sand/gravel.
