As a paladin, holding a trapdoor blocks roughly half and holding an iron door blocks roughly a third.
Tested with a dreadknight and no armour.
Iron Door reduced damage from 6 to 4 (-2)
Wooden Door reduced damage from 6 to 5 (-1)
Trapdoor reduced damage from 6 to 3 (-3)
With full armour, a dreadknight deals 2 damage with his diamond axe. With a trapdoor, he deals 1 damage. This means it is reducing damage by roughly 50%, while being the easiest of all three to craft.
