Resident "Lease Expire Time" question

I just got a resident (12/31/16) and it says "Lease Expire Time" in two days...is this correct, and what will happen at that time?

Also, my whole screen has a red grid on it while I am in my residence...is there a command to turn off the grid? Thank you.
