Yes, and if you are already in a party upon joining sewer, you cannot leave once you've started the game.
I've had multiple occasions where a group of 10 or so people have to start a party and someone accidentally starts a party when someone else already made a party with people joining, and that person cannot gain experience at all.
Until auto party is fixed, I suggest the "You cannot leave a party here" restriction be removed.
