Per @Xanipher I'll be making a reminder thread to the community regarding townships. This will mainly address theft.

After a few PEs pertaining to this issue it became clear that most of the community doesn't have proper knowledge about town theft. Hence this reminder. This was placed on the wiki a few weeks ago but didn't really attract enough attention and has caused a disconnect with the community.
As a general note, dirt over chests does not count as proper protection, the only true protection is LWC.

  • If a town member is caught stealing from their own town, the theft may be reported via petition.
  • Staff will identify the thief and report the name to the mayor or any active manager of the town.
  • The leaders of the town will decide what is to be done. Examples being:
    • Confiscating the thief's house and all their items
    • Removing them from the town
    • Placing bounties on the thief
    • Organizing a posse
    • Notifying allied towns to blacklist the thief

  • This is the extent that staff will get involved with this process. Any further actions are the responsibility of the town mayor/managers, and/or the citizens.
  • Protect yourself with LWCs, subregions, personal regions etc.
To summarize, staff will not intervene in instances of town theft. It is up to the managers and leaders of the towns to ensure that all is well and protected. This is categorized as player politics and is something that staff are trying to distance themselves from. Keep in mind this is only theft and not griefing, malicious intent, region abuse, etc. Staff will still assist with those reports.

If you find issues with LWCs, subregions, personal regions, or anything of the sort report @ hc.to/bugs

Dsawemd will be keeping a list of untrustworthy players to have in your town. The list is impartial and as unbiased as possible, PM me to explain why you think someone should be included.

but if they do is it region abuse?
If they have permissions in that region it is not abuse. Please remember to use your sub regions and lwcs as a true form of protecting your items.

New players and premium acconts will never find towns now. No town thief will keep the stolen goods worth keeping in town\not in an LWC, so removing them and confiscating items won't domuch good. This is the death of trust, new players beware!

This is on the mayor. What stops them from using SUB regions? perhaps I misunderstand what you're stating.

We aren't here to baby sit the player base - We want to provide the tools to police themselves and maintain independence. If something is missing, please let us know so we can fix it. The less staff involvement and interfering in the players day to day activity the better off we'll be.

you guys should give a new class skill to one of the sneaky / tracky classes -
detect theft - when used on a chest, lists names of any players who have taken something from the chest in last 24 hours.

then wouldnt even need mods to check for that stuff. or maybe give it to mayors /shrug

And we should make a new class that has the ability to do block checks and get region info. Why not let them ban players while we're at it?

Edit (Again): I think people are missing the sarcasm in my post.

I would be nice if the Mayor and SiC were able to check on things taken from chests and broken blocks within regions - this would give more power to the towns and cause less pe's to the staff.

But also on this note, I think we would need alot more sub-regions ability so we can assign sub regions to the new players.

I'm confused.

Surely stealing from your own town requires you to have access to the town region, and is therefore considered region abuse?

Unless region abuse has been defined differently...?

Region abuse would be things that involve the town itself like mass griefing, letting people inside, etc. You can add sub-regions to restrict their perms to areas with chests in them. Hopefully @Kainzo will be increasing the number of them at some point.

So it would be legal for a member of a town to take items from any uncovered and/or covered (non-LWC/non-sub-region protected) chests within the town they are a member of? (With the cover being something like dirt, cobblestone, etc)

Correct. Dirt covered chests are not proper forms of protecting your items.

It would be legal to take anything from any chest in any township, regardless of LWC, or Subregions as you would have to have been given permission to access those as well.

Basically, theft of any type is legal and only punishable by in game means.

One thing to clerify on region abuse for me is the opening of doors for other players.

If the dirty member wanted to leave with a bang, since theft is legal, he could undirt all chests and open the doors to the township so anyone can come in and help themselves.
Is this considered region abuse?
if so, would you define region abuse to something like "The allowing of access to a restricted region to those without normal permissions to the region"

If that's the case, would it then be region abuse for all of the users involved in accessing the area they do not have permissions to otherwise access, or even though they protected while knowingly abusing regions by using an insider, because they did not physically modify and blocks?

Important questions to get out of the way before they turn up and have to dealt with on the fly.
