A few concerns

I want to address some issues with the leveling system but,Before I do I just want to say I enjoy playing here I like the competitive style of pvp this server offers and,The server quality is pretty top notch.

I've been playing for around 3 days now at a rate of 8-10 hours A day...Which is A lot.
I've noticed the system used to calculate experience is...well...pretty slow
lets put this into perspective.

I spend 3 hours mining,I get four levels
Im level 29 at the moment.

At this rate its going to take me around 3 or four more days to get to 50 where I'm told the real grind begins (mining no longer grants any experience)

I'm not suggesting that the leveling system be easy
Just easier than it currently is.

The majority..VAST majority of people who like to play mine-craft play it as a hobby game...not a full time thing
and spending hours on hours mining to get a few levels just isn't fair.

Mainly I want to be able to contend with the other players on the server who seem at this point to be miles stronger but,At the current leveling rate that goal seems pretty moot.

36 hours spent on the server and just barley half way to mastering a base class is kind of ridiculous
anyone who agrees with this post or disagrees with this post let your voice be heard
and hopefully something can be done about it

(TLDR version....)

(Leveling takes an absurd amount of time post what you think below)

I can see your point, but I would disagree. You are right that minecraft is mostly a hobby game, not something for people to sink hours and hours into. But that's the point of a level system. The people who -have- sunk hours in, are stronger.

36 hours is quite a bit of time in some senses, but the levels in HC are meant to be an extra thing for you to work for, not something that's handed out easily. In 3 days you are 1/2 way through your base class. That means that by the end of the week, you might have got your spec. I know that spec then will go slower, but it means in say two weeks of playing, you will almost be done with the levels system.

I've seen this happen in other games, people want to level, get frustrated about it taking too long. It's made easier. People don't appreciate the work involved, and all they are interested in is getting max level and then forgetting about the system.

HC is meant to be hardcore, you work for your levels and the higher levels is something to respect / look forward to. It's also an extra reason to do things. I'm still a base craft as well, and today I put in far too many hours essentially digging a giant hole. I would have had much less motivation to do it without the xp addition. It just makes it so that, if you've spent 20 mins mining and not found ore, atleast there was some xp in it.

TL;DR: I like it. It gives more to do.

Im okay with it taking ages to level. Im not happy about it but I can live with it. what I absolutely think is stupid, atleast now when leveling is made so hard, is that we loose massive amounts of xp for dying.

but on the otherhand. if we wouldnt loose xp the system could easily be exploited (have a level 1 crafter spawn in a bed somewhere, this could be your alt account, then just spawn kill it=level)

I dont know how much xp u get from killing somebody, i remember in the day it was around 30 xp?

why not make the xp loss something like that?

its 45xp a kill on base level, but i will agree with your plan.
i just recently switched to rogue from mason and pvping is a major waste of xp, if you die once its something like 5-6 kills (or an hour or 2 of mining) to get your xp back which is a bit ridiculous

Yeah on top of all that,to experience the later game content I.E. Specced classes
You have to grind to level 50 at a snails pace Only to do it all over again.

Very frustrating.

Just a point though, you have to remember that you don't HAVE to be max level as your spec to be competitive. Even half-way through your spec, you'd only be around 5 hp less than your max level-counterpart. Also, you'll have a good amount of your skills before you hit 50.

I don't know if this is just me, but I kind of miss not being max leveled because it gave me the incentive to actually carry out big projects or hunts in order to level instead of being lazy. I could respec but at the same time, I'd miss having the power of a max level character. You get a little stuck in between desires.

As for the grind itself, you'll feel that much prouder when you do reach the pinnacle of your power because you could survive the grind. Maybe they can reduce the death penalty a little, that would seem fair but the danger of a hefty death penalty does make it a little more exciting. :)

The system is designed to be slower - be thankful that you have a 50% bonus and can gain exp from all sources in the first 5 paths ;)

In 3 days of grinding you could easily get lvl. 50, so I don't see what your talking about. I did it.

And it is super fast if you compare it to another RPG, that takes 3 months to actually master your first time. Thats your FIRST time.

The grind is meant to take a while like other game grind's, but compared to them, this is easy. You wont get levels handed to you on a silver platter. But remember, its still in beta, rates can change at any time, just don't explect it to change too much.
Also, be glad the level is only level 50, other games your level is at least 30 levels higher!

lol but other games have quests and dungeons and multiple ways of lvling where as hc ya first tier u can lvl by mobs and mining but the 2nd if ur not a crafter you can only kill mobs. I agree that the grind is long, and i think its stupid that they say they make it hard so they want it to be something they can casually do. But if you casually do it you will never get there without some major grind. You make lvl 50 in all the specs look so amazing with all the abilities and stuff like that and you just expect people to get there casually? No. People want to get there and are excited to get there so of course they are going to grind out those lvls.
