At this early stage of the Bastion map, lots needs to be brought up to date in the Wiki. Then there’s the issue of keeping it up to date…

The HeroCraft Wiki is driven by the HC community – yay! A team approach shows respect to the players most active in updating the Wiki. Please, always ‘View History’ on a page you’re considering changing to see who has been working on it and how recently.

I’m proposing a coordinated approach initially for Sept/Oct 2012. In the list below I’ve named the players who are responsible for, or who have been recently active on or shown interest in, these Wiki pages. (If you are no longer interested, please let me know.)

GENERAL
Rules and ToS – @Brutalacerate
Legal/illegal mods – needs definite statement by server admin ( @Kainzo , @Brutalacerate ) – currently being worked on by @jwplayer0
Staff – @Alator , @WitchOnaRampage , staff
Patch updates – @Alator , @WitchOnaRampage
Player titles – @millejinta87
Multiverse – undoubtedly needs updating
History – also would benefit from an update

GUIDES
FAQs – input welcome
Newbie guide – needs attention/rewriting
General guides – needs attention/expansion
Donor Perks – work in progress by @WitchOnaRampage , error reports/suggestions welcome, input will be sought soon from donors on what’s working and what’s not
Donor residences – work in progress by @WitchOnaRampage , input will be sought soon
Abbreviations – casual additions/corrections welcome
Updating the Wiki – @WitchOnaRampage will probably have a go over the next few days

COMBAT AND CRAFTER CLASSES
Skills, costs, weapons/damage – Currently a plan to update these weekly from server data (about to be implemented) – @WitchOnaRampage and @Alator – information on errors welcome
Class descriptions – recently worked on by @leftovers5
Class skins – recent interest in filling the gaps expressed by @killah426 (thread: http://herocraftonline.com/main/threads/can-i-make-the-class-path-skins-from-the-wiki.23998/)
Cauldron use – hopefully included in weekly updates from server data, error reports welcome to @WitchOnaRampage
Transmute Ore – hopefully included in weekly updates from server data, error reports welcome to @WitchOnaRampage
Enchanting – @millejinta87
Engineer levels for using ICs – @Sidgil (probably see @Alator for this info)
ICs available for use by Engineers – @Sidgil
Forage – hopefully included in weekly updates from server data, error reports welcome to @WitchOnaRampage
Merchant Chest Shop levels/types – hopefully included in weekly updates from server data, error reports welcome to @WitchOnaRampage
Mason skills, Gate to Hidden Switch – needs correction/updating – @Sidgil and @Favith
Smith repair levels/items – hopefully included in weekly updates from server data, error reports welcome to @WitchOnaRampage
Smith deconstruct levels/items – hopefully included in weekly updates from server data, error reports welcome to @WitchOnaRampage

COMMANDS – corrections/additions welcome

PLUGIN MECHANICS
Heroes/Specialisations/Skills – needs reviewing and possible updating
Leveling – hopefully included in weekly updates from server data, error reports welcome to @WitchOnaRampage
Quests – work in progress by @Iarbobray
Bars (health, stamina) – recently cobbled together by @WitchOnaRampage – needs expansion, contributions welcome
Town Creation – recently updated by @WitchOnaRampage – error reports/suggestions welcome
List of Towns – updates by Town owners welcome
Guilds – probably needs updating

ALL CONTRIBUTIONS WELCOME, BUT PLEASE check with the person currently working on the page first.

Amazing, this was the part I was the most concerned about, figuring out what needed to be done so it can be fixed. I will start gathering info for the ICs and work on how that info is presented. I may need to wait till I get Minecraft up and running again, I need to be able to experiment with soem of the more complicated ICs to explain them more clearly, as well as give clearer screenshots of the set ups. I also found some good info on Redstone work as well, so I will add that in to.

Here is the BIG question. Should I worry about citation?

Also, anyone know a mason, I can find guides to the gates and bridges, but ultimately I will need a mason to fill in the gaps on the way the class works so I know I have it explained properly.

Also, we need a team name! I like Scribes, but thats taken by the crafter class. Librarians?

... we need a team name!

I like the Angels, because that's what I think every time someone expresses an interest in areas that are totally beyond me! Ie imaginative descriptions, graphic design, any aspect of engineering, areas I have no or little experience in (ie quests)...

On that topic, it would be great to have someone who's actually visited Tutorial Island to have a go at the Newbie Guide...

Here is the BIG question. Should I worry about citation?

A worthy question indeed. A general rule is if the information can be considered general knowledge, then it doesn't need citation. However if the info comes from an expert source or the original creator, then citation is advisable (and shows due respect). As a guide, in the Donor Residences page I'm including the most basic commands that people are likely to use and referring them on to the Bukkit Mod page, which is the source, for more detailed explorations.

Also meant to say to everyone interested in contributing to the Wiki, please post in this thread and I'll keep the OP updated.

So looking at the IC page, I am thinking I will completely rewrite it and simplify it. I'm not saying its bad, just that it only makes sense to me now that I have done my own research, when I was first trying to learn ICs I had a hell of time following it. Ofcourse this page must wait till I am up and running again so I can download the plugin and created clearer screenshots. I may also link to some YouTube videos. I have found a few myself, but maybe I can get @Dielan9999 to help me make tutorials.

EDIT:

Also thinking about trying to combine the level and description pages for the Engineer.

Looking at the Mason page, I can see where it needs some clarification as well.

@WitchOnaRampage The Newbie guide needs a Whitelisted/greylist explanation as well a link to the forum post. I can add this in, but I don't know what the restrictions are for being greylisted.

By help you make tutorials, do you mean use my computer so you can record as easily as I do? :p I don't think your computer is suitable for recording videos.

Here's a question I've been pondering:

How much info is just the right amount for the Wiki? How much should be laid out for players, and how much should they be left to discover themselves, as part of the game?

Thoughts, everyone, @Kainzo @Alator @Brutalacerate ?

@Sidgil I don't know if it's useful - and you may well have already seen it - but here's the thread where Kainzo mentioned using Craftbook rather than Falsebook (perhaps it will make more sense to you than me):

http://herocraftonline.com/main/thr...tly-denied-for-certain-ics.23835/#post-216427

Also, I've had a bit more of a thought about citation. I reckon it would be advisable to name the mods where possible. I haven't been doing this - because I didn't know what the mods were, usually. I think this is worth looking into further.

I may do the Enchanting part, if anyone send me the exact list of wich enchantments that are in game (bad idea to take it from my memory) @some staff, or very experienced enchanters?

I also noticed that the "player titles" section had some errors so I could look into that aswell :)

Alright, so I agree with keeping some mystery to the game in any way we can. Technical stuff does need to be explained, as well as the basics. Unfortunately, because of the way the game is setup, this can be hard to do. There are a lot of commands that are neccesary and the mystery is lost when you start talking about commands. The only real mystery we can preserve is the location of towns and forts on the map, leaving it up to players to find towns. We shouldn't tell the players "How to Play" the game or their classes, that is up to them to decide. I plan to explain how each IC works but I am not going to tell them how to use them, that way they know what it does, and its left up to the players to decided what its for.

But I feel that we should give some of the pages a sense of wonder. Let me if I can come up with an example.

Instead of:
"Where the Rogue class is focused on sneaking and higher damage, the Warrior class and specs have more of a focus on high HP and armor that make them effective tanks, with skills like taunt to pull mobs off of allies, shield to protect themselves from damage, or disarm to lessen the damage an enemy may deal within a certain duration. "

Maybe something along the lines of:
"Unlike Rogues, Warriors charge head on into the fight, using heavy armor and shields to survive encounters as they protect their allies and taunt foes to fight them."

I haven't had a chance to look at the craftbook thread, so thats where I am heading now.
